Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking an accomplished and highly motivated Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our rapidly expanding team in Toronto. This pivotal role will see you take ownership of all commercial aspects of complex, multi-million dollar construction projects, from initial feasibility studies through to final account settlement. As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be instrumental in ensuring the financial viability and profitability of our ventures, providing expert advice on cost management, contractual matters, and risk mitigation.
You will be expected to utilize your extensive experience to lead the cost planning, procurement, and financial control of diverse projects, encompassing everything from high-rise commercial buildings to critical infrastructure upgrades. This involves meticulous preparation of tender documents, comprehensive cost analysis, contract negotiation with subcontractors and suppliers, and diligent monitoring of project expenditures against budgets. Key Responsibilities
- Manage all commercial aspects of construction projects from inception to completion, ensuring financial viability and profitability.
- Prepare, analyze, and review tender documents, contract agreements, and procurement strategies.
- Conduct detailed cost analysis, budget forecasting, and value engineering exercises.
- Administer contracts, including variations, claims, and final accounts, in accordance with contractual terms.
- Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks, implementing mitigation strategies.
- Negotiate with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to achieve favorable commercial outcomes.
- Mentor and support junior quantity surveyors and commercial team members.
- Provide expert advice on contractual disputes and commercial issues.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 5+ years of demonstrable experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a focus on large-scale construction projects.
- Proficiency in construction contract law and standard forms of contract (e.g., CCDC, FIDIC).
- Exceptional analytical, financial management, and negotiation skills.
- Strong proficiency in cost management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project).
- Ability to read and interpret complex construction drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional accreditation (PQS, MRICS, or equivalent).
- Master's degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Law.
- Experience with infrastructure, commercial high-rise, or mixed-use developments.
- Demonstrated experience in leading a commercial team or mentoring junior staff.
- Advanced knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modeling) and its commercial applications.
