Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and execute complex technical drawings, blueprints, and design specifications for scenic elements and structures.
  • Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials such as wood, plywood, laminates, and basic metal components with high precision.
  • Utilize a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently, including saws, drills, routers, and sanders.
  • Construct and install temporary and permanent set pieces, displays, and structural elements for events, attractions, and retail environments.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, project managers, and other tradespeople to ensure structural integrity and aesthetic fidelity.
  • Perform on-site adjustments, modifications, and repairs as needed during installation and dismantle phases.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and site-specific regulations, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Manage and maintain inventory of tools and materials, ensuring proper storage and readiness for projects.
  • Contribute to problem-solving and innovative solutions for construction challenges.
  • Ensure final assembly and finishing meets specified quality standards and deadlines.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in carpentry and woodworking techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Expertise in operating a wide range of hand and power tools safely
  • Strong understanding of construction materials and their properties (wood, laminates, fasteners)
  • Acute attention to detail and precision in measurements and cuts
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and work in various positions

  • Adherence to workplace safety regulations and practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Red Seal Carpenter certification or equivalent trade qualification
  • Previous experience in set building, scenic construction, exhibition installation, or theatrical production
  • Experience with welding or basic metal fabrication
  • Knowledge of rigging and safe lifting practices
  • Ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, or other heavy equipment (certification preferred)
  • Portfolio showcasing previous carpentry or set building projects
