Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Art Director and Director to interpret scripts and develop conceptual designs for film sets.
- Create detailed sketches, models, and computer-generated renderings to visualize set designs.
- Produce comprehensive technical drawings and blueprints for set construction, ensuring structural integrity and safety standards.
- Select appropriate materials, furniture, props, and decor that align with the aesthetic vision and budget.
- Research historical periods, architectural styles, and cultural contexts to ensure authenticity and accuracy in set design.
- Manage and oversee the set construction process, coordinating with carpenters, painters, and other craftspeople.
- Monitor budgets and timelines for set design and construction, ensuring projects stay on track.
- Ensure all sets comply with health and safety regulations, as well as production requirements.
- Actively participate in location scouting to assess the feasibility of integrating existing locations with designed sets.
- Lead and mentor junior designers and assistants, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Set Designer or similar role in film or television production.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino) and graphic design tools (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Strong artistic and creative vision with an excellent understanding of composition, color theory, and spatial awareness.
- Exceptional ability to interpret scripts and translate narrative concepts into visual designs.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and safety regulations.
- Strong organizational, project management, and budgeting skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
