Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive one-on-one settlement information, orientation, and referral services to newcomers.
- Assist clients in accessing essential community resources including housing, education, employment, healthcare, and legal aid.
- Guide clients through the completion of various applications and forms (e.g., OHIP, SIN, child benefits, school registration).
- Conduct thorough needs assessments and collaboratively develop individualized settlement plans tailored to each client's unique circumstances.
- Facilitate and deliver engaging workshops and group information sessions on topics relevant to newcomer integration.
- Maintain accurate, confidential client records and detailed case notes in compliance with organizational policies.
- Advocate effectively on behalf of clients to ensure their rights and needs are met by service providers and institutions.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams and external community partners to ensure seamless service delivery and comprehensive support.
- Stay current with legislative changes, policies, and programs impacting immigrants and refugees in Canada.
Required Skills
- Exceptional interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational abilities and proven time management skills to handle multiple cases efficiently.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a high degree of cultural sensitivity and awareness.
- Ability to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) for record-keeping and communication.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
- Strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness in challenging situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education (diploma or degree) in Social Work, Community Development, Immigration Studies, or a related field.
- Fluency in a second language relevant to Toronto's diverse newcomer communities (e.g., Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, Spanish, Tagalog, Punjabi, Urdu).
- Volunteer or professional experience working with diverse populations or newcomers.
- Familiarity with local community resources, social services, and settlement agencies in the Greater Toronto Area, particularly York.
- Basic knowledge of the Canadian immigration system and settlement processes.
