Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout requirements.
- Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on sheet metal according to drawings or templates.
- Operate metalworking machines such as shears, brakes, punches, and forming presses to cut, bend, punch, and shape sheet metal.
- Fabricate and install a wide range of sheet metal products including ducts, panels, flashings, and architectural components.
- Inspect product quality and installation to ensure conformity to specifications and building codes.
- Assemble and weld components using various welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, stick) as required.
- Install and repair sheet metal products and equipment in accordance with safety procedures and project timelines.
- Conduct routine maintenance on tools and equipment, ensuring their optimal performance and safety.
- Collaborate effectively with other trades, project managers, and supervisors to ensure smooth project progression.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and provincial building codes.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to apprentices or less experienced team members.
Required Skills
- Ontario Certificate of Qualification (308A Sheet Metal Worker)
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience as a Certified Sheet Metal Worker
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Expertise in operating a variety of sheet metal fabrication equipment and hand tools
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal properties, gauges, and fabrication techniques
- Demonstrated ability in various welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick)
- Excellent understanding and adherence to safety protocols and procedures
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Sheet Metal Fabrication or a related field
- Experience with specialized architectural sheet metal work
- Valid Working at Heights and WHMIS certifications
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Experience leading small teams or mentoring apprentices
