Key Responsibilities
- Operate various snow removal equipment including snow blowers, shovels, and potentially small plows or salters (with training), to clear snow and ice from designated areas such as parking lots, sidewalks, pathways, and entryways.
- Perform manual snow shoveling and de-icing tasks as required to ensure thorough clearance and safety.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment, reporting any mechanical issues or maintenance needs promptly.
- Apply de-icing agents (salt, sand, etc.) accurately and efficiently to prevent ice formation.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company policies to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Work flexible hours, including overnight shifts, early mornings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by weather conditions and snowfall, responding promptly to call-outs.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding job status, site conditions, and any potential hazards.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and provide excellent service to clients and the public.
- Assist with basic maintenance and cleaning of equipment after use, ensuring longevity and readiness for the next event.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, shoveling, and standing for extended periods in cold weather conditions.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic, especially during on-call situations and critical weather events.
- Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Driver’s License with a clean driving record (or equivalent provincial license) to operate company vehicles and equipment.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all safety guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cohesive team.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to changing weather conditions, equipment operation, and operational demands.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating landscaping or light construction equipment (e.g., walk-behind snow blowers, small tractors, skid steers) is an asset but not required.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for minor equipment checks and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
- Familiarity with local Bridgewater area routes and property layouts.
- Experience working in outdoor environments during harsh weather conditions, demonstrating resilience and preparedness.
