Key Responsibilities
- Operate various snow removal equipment including snow blowers, shovels, salters, and potentially plows (if licensed and experienced).
- Clear snow and ice from sidewalks, pathways, entrances, parking lots, and other designated areas.
- Apply de-icing agents (salt, sand) as required to ensure safe walking and driving surfaces.
- Perform pre-shift inspections of equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety.
- Conduct minor equipment maintenance and cleaning as needed.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations and company policies.
- Work efficiently and effectively in varying winter weather conditions, including extreme cold and heavy snowfall.
- Respond promptly to calls for snow removal, often requiring work during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure thorough and timely completion of tasks.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or concerns to supervisors immediately.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and strength to perform demanding tasks in cold weather.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly.
- Reliability and punctuality, especially with on-call work schedules.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Valid provincial driver's license (G class) with a clean driving record (for operating vehicles).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in snow removal or general labor.
- Experience operating small engine equipment (e.g., snow blowers).
- Familiarity with the Garden District, Toronto area roads and properties.
- Certification in First Aid/CPR.
