Job Description

Hiring.zycto is actively seeking experienced and highly reliable Seasonal Snowplow Operators to join our winter maintenance team based in Laval-des-Rapides. This is a critical role that ensures the safety, accessibility, and continuity of operations for our communities, businesses, and essential roadways throughout the challenging winter months. As a Snowplow Operator, you will be instrumental in swiftly and effectively clearing snow and ice, maintaining clear paths for vehicles and pedestrians, and responding proactively to changing weather conditions.

You will be working primarily outdoors in various, often harsh, weather conditions, requiring adaptability and resilience. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate snowplows, salters, and other heavy equipment to efficiently clear snow and ice from designated routes including roads, parking lots, and pathways.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections on all assigned equipment, documenting and promptly reporting any mechanical issues or necessary repairs.
  • Continuously monitor weather conditions and adapt clearing strategies as necessary to ensure effective and timely snow and ice removal.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols, traffic laws, and operational procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Maintain accurate logs of routes completed, hours worked, materials used (e.g., salt, sand), and any incidents encountered.
  • Communicate effectively and promptly with dispatch, supervisors, and other team members regarding operational status, challenges, and completion.
  • Perform minor equipment maintenance and adjustments as required in the field to ensure continuous operation.
  • Ensure cleared properties and routes meet specified standards and client expectations for safety and accessibility.
  • Be available for on-call shifts and extended hours, especially during significant snowfall events.

Required Skills

  • Valid Class 3 (or equivalent heavy vehicle) driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of proven, hands-on experience operating snowplows or other heavy-duty winter maintenance equipment.
  • Strong understanding and adherence to road safety regulations and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and problem-solve effectively in varying and challenging weather conditions.
  • Excellent situational awareness, attention to detail, and spatial reasoning skills.
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks associated with snow removal, including lifting, shoveling, and working in cold conditions when necessary.
  • Exceptional reliability and punctuality are paramount, particularly during critical weather events.
  • Ability to read maps or follow GPS directions for assigned routes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with various types of salt and sand spreading equipment and calibration.
  • Familiarity with GPS tracking and route optimization software for winter operations.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting minor equipment issues in the field.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is considered a significant asset in the Quebec region.
