Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher – Professional to join our network of inclusive schools in the vibrant Clanton Park area of Toronto. This pivotal role involves providing specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they have equitable access to the curriculum and opportunities for academic and personal growth. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring Individual Education Plans (IEPs), employing evidence-based instructional strategies, and fostering a positive and engaging learning environment. You will be responsible for conducting ongoing assessments, adapting teaching materials, and integrating assistive technologies to meet the unique requirements of each student. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and evaluate Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with exceptionalities in collaboration with parents, general education teachers, and support staff.
  • Provide differentiated instruction and implement a variety of teaching methods to address the diverse learning styles and needs of students.
  • Conduct ongoing formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress, identify learning gaps, and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment conducive to learning and student well-being.
  • Collaborate regularly with parents/guardians, providing updates on student progress and involving them in the educational planning process.
  • Work closely with general education teachers to facilitate student integration and provide accommodations and modifications in mainstream settings.
  • Manage student behavior effectively, implementing positive behavior interventions and support strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including IEPs, progress reports, and communication logs.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives, professional development activities, and team meetings to enhance educational practices.
  • Stay current with best practices, research, and legislative requirements in special education.

Required Skills

  • Valid Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification with qualifications in Special Education (Part 1, 2, and Specialist).
  • Minimum of 3 years of classroom teaching experience, preferably within a special education setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Strong understanding of diverse learning needs, including but not limited to learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and intellectual disabilities.
  • Proficiency in differentiated instruction, assistive technologies, and adaptive learning strategies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and external professionals.
  • Ability to manage a diverse classroom environment and implement positive behavior support strategies.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment for all students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Additional qualifications or certifications in specific areas such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Reading Interventions, or specific learning disabilities.
  • Experience with various assessment tools and data-driven instruction.
  • Fluency in additional languages relevant to the diverse student population in Toronto.
