Job Description
Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Fiber Splicer to join our growing team in Mississauga, ON. This is a critical role that underpins our commitment to delivering superior telecommunications infrastructure. As a Fiber Splicer, you will be instrumental in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables and related equipment. Your expertise will directly contribute to expanding and enhancing our high-speed networks, ensuring reliable connectivity for residential, commercial, and enterprise clients.
You will be responsible for performing precise fusion and mechanical splicing, testing fiber optic cables, and troubleshooting issues to ensure optimal network performance. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of fiber optic technology, and the ability to work independently or as part of a crew in various outdoor and indoor environments. Key Responsibilities
- Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of various fiber optic cable types (loose tube, ribbon, etc.) in diverse environments.
- Test fiber optic cables using specialized equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and visual fault locators to ensure signal integrity.
- Install, terminate, and maintain fiber optic distribution frames (FODF), enclosures, and other related passive optical components.
- Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, design maps, and splicing diagrams.
- Identify and troubleshoot fiber optic network issues, including breaks, attenuation, and reflection.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with industry standards, company policies, and strict safety regulations.
- Accurately document all splicing work, test results, and inventory used for project completion.
- Collaborate effectively with field technicians, project managers, and other stakeholders to coordinate project activities and timelines.
- Operate and maintain company vehicles and specialized tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Participate in on-call rotations for emergency repairs and maintenance as required.
Required Skills
- Proven hands-on experience (minimum 2 years) in fiber optic splicing (fusion and mechanical).
- Proficiency in using and interpreting results from OTDRs, power meters, and other fiber optic test equipment.
- Strong understanding of fiber optic theory, cable types, connectors, and network architectures (FTTH, FTTN).
- Ability to read and accurately interpret technical drawings, schematics, and construction plans.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills for fiber optic networks.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and understanding of relevant safety protocols.
- Valid G Class driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various weather conditions and environments.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant industry certifications such as FOA CFOT, CFOS/S, or equivalent.
- Post-secondary education or technical diploma in Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related field.
- Experience with GIS mapping software and utility locating.
- Familiarity with various telecommunications standards and best practices.
- Experience operating bucket trucks or other aerial lift equipment (valid certification preferred).
