Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sterile Processing Technician to join our night shift team in Mount Dennis, Toronto. This critical role is the backbone of patient care, providing essential support by ensuring all medical instruments and equipment are meticulously cleaned, disinfected, sterilized, and prepared for use.

Working the night shift, you will play a crucial role in preparing instruments for the next day’s procedures, contributing to the seamless operation of healthcare services. You will be responsible for a comprehensive range of tasks from decontamination to sterilization, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards and best practices. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties related to the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and storage of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
  • Operate and monitor sterile processing equipment including washers, sterilizers (steam, EtO, low-temperature), and instrument washers according to manufacturer guidelines and facility policies.
  • Inspect instruments for functionality, cleanliness, and damage, ensuring all items are in perfect working order before assembly.
  • Assemble instrument sets accurately and efficiently using count sheets and procedure cards.
  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, biological indicator tests, and equipment maintenance.
  • Adhere strictly to all infection control policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory standards (e.g., CSA, PIDAC, Health Canada, MOH).
  • Manage inventory of sterile supplies, identifying and reporting discrepancies or low stock levels.
  • Participate in ongoing quality assurance activities and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with surgical staff, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely delivery of sterile instruments.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions and perform routine maintenance as required.

Required Skills

  • Completion of a recognized Sterile Processing Technician program.
  • Current certification with CSAO (Central Service Association of Ontario) or IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management).
  • Minimum of 1 year (12 months) of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician, preferably in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and surgical instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in all methods of sterilization, including steam, EtO, and low-temperature processes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and visual acuity.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and push/pull heavy carts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working a night shift schedule.
  • Familiarity with various sterile processing tracking systems and hospital information systems.
  • Advanced certification in sterile processing.
  • Experience with robotic instrumentation reprocessing.
  • Demonstrated ability to train or mentor junior staff members.
