Job Description

Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Surveyor to join our network of top-tier professionals. Based out of Weston Village, Toronto, this full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical infrastructure projects, land development, and environmental assessments across the Greater Toronto Area. As a Field Surveyor, you will be the eyes and ears on the ground, responsible for collecting precise spatial data that forms the foundation of engineering designs, construction layouts, and legal property definitions. Your work will involve utilizing advanced surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and laser scanners, to accurately measure distances, angles, and elevations with meticulous attention to detail. This role demands a keen eye for accuracy, a strong understanding of surveying principles, and the ability to work effectively in various outdoor conditions, often traversing diverse terrains. You will interpret complex engineering and architectural blueprints, prepare detailed field notes, sketches, and digital records, ensuring all data collected meets rigorous quality standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed topographic, boundary, construction layout, and control surveys.
  • Operate and maintain advanced surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, digital levels, and laser scanners.
  • Collect, process, and verify spatial data using specialized field software and CAD tools.
  • Interpret complex engineering plans, blueprints, and legal land documents.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive field notes, sketches, and digital data files.
  • Perform precise calculations to determine property lines, elevations, quantities, and other critical spatial information.
  • Ensure strict adherence to project specifications, industry standards, and all health and safety protocols.
  • Proactively troubleshoot equipment issues and perform basic field maintenance.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with project managers, engineers, clients, and other team members.
  • Contribute to the training and mentorship of junior survey staff as required.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency with modern surveying instruments (total stations, GPS/GNSS, data collectors).
  • Strong understanding of surveying principles, methodologies, and geodetic concepts.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret complex engineering drawings, plans, and legal descriptions.
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in field data collection software (e.g., Trimble Access, Leica Captivate, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in diverse outdoor environments and weather conditions.
  • Valid G-Class Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Geomatics, Land Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Certified Survey Technologist (CST) designation or actively working towards becoming an Ontario Land Surveyor (OLS).
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation) for data processing and drafting.
  • Familiarity with LiDAR scanning or drone-based surveying techniques.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
