Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate T1 personal income tax returns for individuals, including self-employed individuals and those with rental properties.
  • Conduct thorough client interviews, either in-person or virtually, to gather all necessary tax-related information and documents.
  • Review prior year tax returns and financial statements to identify potential discrepancies or missed opportunities.
  • Ensure full compliance with all CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) regulations and tax laws.
  • Provide clear, concise, and professional explanations of tax returns and tax laws to clients.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client information.
  • Utilize tax preparation software proficiently to optimize filing accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist clients with inquiries regarding their tax returns and provide guidance on tax planning strategies where appropriate.
  • Stay updated on current tax legislation, changes, and industry best practices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in T1 personal income tax preparation.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., UFile, TaxCycle, TurboTax).
  • Strong understanding of Canadian income tax laws and CRA regulations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience with small business tax preparation (T2) or other specialized tax areas.
  • Fluency in additional languages relevant to the local community.
  • Designation or enrollment in professional accounting programs (e.g., CPA candidate).
