As a Teaching Assistant, you will be integral to the daily operation of the classroom, working closely with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning, provide targeted interventions, and boost confidence. You will support students with a range of needs, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring every child feels valued and included.

Beyond direct student support, you will play a crucial role in preparing learning materials, setting up classroom activities, and maintaining an organised and stimulating educational space. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging educational activities and lessons.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students, including those with special educational needs (SEND), to reinforce learning and address individual requirements.
  • Help maintain a positive, safe, and stimulating learning environment conducive to student growth and well-being.
  • Prepare learning materials, resources, and classroom displays, ensuring they are accessible and relevant to lesson objectives.
  • Support student behaviour management strategies, promoting positive conduct and encouraging independent learning.
  • Supervise students during non-classroom activities, such as playtime, lunch breaks, and school trips, ensuring their safety and engagement.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other staff members regarding student progress, concerns, and achievements.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with children and adults.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with and supporting young people.
  • Ability to support diverse learning needs and adapt approaches to suit individual student requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Basic understanding of child development and a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or a related educational qualification.
  • Previous experience working in a classroom or educational setting, especially with primary school-aged children.
  • Current First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of specific learning difficulties (e.g., dyslexia, ADHD) and strategies to support students with these needs.
