Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the class teacher in planning and preparing lessons, ensuring materials are readily available.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, focusing on literacy, numeracy, and other key areas of the curriculum.
  • Help to manage classroom behaviour and maintain a positive, engaging learning environment, adhering to school policies.
  • Support students with special educational needs (SEN) or English as an additional language (EAL) under the guidance of the teacher.
  • Supervise students during non-classroom activities, including lunch breaks, playtime, and school trips.
  • Assist with the assessment of student progress, recording observations and providing feedback to the class teacher.
  • Prepare and organise learning resources, display boards, and classroom equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other staff members regarding student progress and well-being.
  • Participate in relevant professional development opportunities and school meetings as required.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students at all times.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • A genuine passion for working with children and fostering their development.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with students.
  • Proactive and adaptable approach to classroom support and varied tasks.
  • Basic IT proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office suite, online learning platforms).
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Eligibility for a UK Visa (sponsorship provided by Hiring.zycto).

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting (e.g., school, nursery, youth club).
  • Knowledge of the UK National Curriculum.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or EAL.
  • Proficiency in additional languages.
