Job Description

Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Trailer Mechanic with a Heavy Duty endorsement to join our client’s dynamic team in Mill Woods, Edmonton. This full-time, on-site position offers an exciting opportunity for a professional who thrives on tackling complex mechanical challenges and ensuring the peak performance and safety of a diverse fleet of heavy-duty trailers.

As a Trailer Mechanic, you will be the backbone of our client’s maintenance operations, responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on various types of commercial trailers, including flatbeds, dry vans, reefers, and specialty trailers. Your expertise will directly contribute to the operational efficiency and safety compliance that our clients are renowned for. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive diagnostic tests to identify mechanical and electrical faults on heavy-duty trailers.
  • Execute repairs, overhauls, and preventative maintenance on various trailer components, including brakes, suspensions, electrical systems, air systems, hydraulic systems, and landing gear.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure trailers meet safety and regulatory standards (e.g., CVIP inspections).
  • Repair or replace structural components, including welding, cutting, and fabrication as required.
  • Troubleshoot and repair lighting systems, ABS, and other electronic trailer systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities performed.
  • Order and manage parts inventory necessary for repairs.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
  • Provide expert advice on trailer maintenance and potential upgrades.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and communicate findings to supervisors.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Heavy Duty Trailer Mechanic or similar role.
  • Journeyperson certificate as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Truck and Transport Mechanic.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical, electrical, and air systems on heavy-duty trailers.
  • Strong welding and fabrication skills (MIG, TIG, Stick).
  • Knowledge of CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) standards and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent) with a clean abstract.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic software and tools relevant to heavy-duty trailers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with various trailer types (e.g., reefers, flatbeds, dry vans, tankers).
  • Red Seal endorsement.
  • Certification in specific trailer systems (e.g., ABS diagnostics).
  • Possession of own tools appropriate for the trade.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Forklift and aerial work platform certification.
