Key Responsibilities
- Operate tram vehicles safely and efficiently according to schedules and operational procedures.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, traffic laws, and company policies.
- Conduct pre-service vehicle checks and report any defects or issues promptly.
- Provide excellent customer service, including clear announcements and assistance to passengers as needed.
- Manage passenger boarding and alighting processes, ensuring safety and accessibility.
- Respond calmly and effectively to unforeseen circumstances, emergencies, or disruptions.
- Maintain accurate records of journeys, incidents, and vehicle performance.
- Communicate effectively with control centre staff, maintenance teams, and emergency services.
- Ensure the cleanliness and presentability of the tram interior during service.
- Undergo continuous training and development to maintain and enhance operational skills.
Required Skills
- Valid UK driving license (Category D1 for light rail if applicable, or willingness to obtain).
- Minimum 2 years (24 months) experience in a public transport driving role or similar heavy vehicle operation.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to maintain concentration for extended periods.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Excellent understanding of road safety and operational procedures.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Commitment to passenger safety and customer service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a tram, train, or bus operator.
- NVQ Level 2 in Passenger Transport or equivalent.
- First Aid certification.
- Local knowledge of Cardiff and its transport network.
- Proficiency in Welsh (desirable but not essential).
