As an Urban Planner at Hiring.zycto, you will play a crucial role in navigating complex planning regulations, preparing detailed planning applications, conducting site appraisals, and developing innovative urban design solutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, submit, and manage a wide range of planning applications, including outline, full, reserved matters, and listed building consents, ensuring compliance with local and national planning policies.
  • Conduct comprehensive site appraisals, feasibility studies, and policy reviews to inform development proposals and strategic planning advice.
  • Liaise effectively with local planning authorities, statutory consultees, design teams, and clients throughout the planning process.
  • Develop and present detailed planning statements, design and access statements, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including community groups and elected officials, through public consultations and workshops.
  • Provide expert planning advice on complex urban development issues, planning strategy, and policy interpretation.
  • Monitor progress of applications, respond to queries, and negotiate with planning officers to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including preparing fee proposals and identifying new opportunities.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Urban Planning, Town Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of post-qualification experience in urban planning, preferably within a consultancy or local authority in the UK.
  • Strong understanding of the UK planning system, policy framework, and legislative changes, particularly within London.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering planning applications and projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex planning issues clearly and concisely.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and CAD for planning analysis and presentation.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership or eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
  • Experience in regeneration projects, master planning, or strategic planning initiatives.
  • Demonstrable experience with public consultation processes and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Knowledge of urban design principles and conservation area management.
  • Familiarity with sustainability frameworks and environmental assessment methodologies.
