Job Description

Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a meticulous and dedicated Vehicle Inspector to join our government team in scenic Lions Bay, British Columbia. This critical role is integral to upholding public safety standards by ensuring all vehicles operating within our jurisdiction meet the stringent provincial and national regulatory requirements. As a Government Vehicle Inspector, you will perform comprehensive and impartial inspections on a wide array of vehicles, ranging from standard passenger cars and light trucks to commercial transport vehicles and school buses. Your responsibilities will encompass verifying compliance with established safety protocols, including braking systems, steering mechanisms, lighting, tires, suspension, frame integrity, and emission standards.

You will utilize specialized diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and document vehicle defects, mechanical issues, and instances of non-compliance. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough and impartial inspections of various vehicle types (passenger, commercial, heavy-duty) in accordance with provincial and national safety standards and regulations.
  • Identify and document vehicle defects, mechanical issues, and non-compliance with established safety and emission guidelines using specialized diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, maintain accurate records, and issue compliance certifications or rejection notices as appropriate.
  • Educate vehicle owners/operators on identified deficiencies and the necessary corrective actions to achieve compliance.
  • Stay updated with all changes in vehicle safety regulations, emissions standards, and inspection procedures.
  • Collaborate with enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to ensure consistent application of vehicle safety laws.
  • Operate and maintain inspection equipment and facilities in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Provide expert testimony or reports for legal proceedings when required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Vehicle Inspector or in a related automotive diagnostic role.
  • In-depth knowledge of provincial (British Columbia) and national vehicle safety standards and regulations.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment for vehicle inspection.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of vehicle systems (brakes, suspension, steering, exhaust, electrical).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify subtle defects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and stakeholder interaction.
  • Valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver's License (or equivalent).
  • Ability to work independently and make objective, informed decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Automotive Service Technician (Red Seal) certification.
  • Experience with commercial vehicle inspection programs.
  • Knowledge of heavy-duty vehicle systems.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations pertaining to vehicle emissions.
  • Experience working in a government or public sector environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency for data entry and report generation.
