As a Farm Veterinarian, you will become an integral part of the agricultural community, working closely with farmers to safeguard their livestock and enhance their operations. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments and routine examinations on various farm animals (dairy, beef, swine, poultry).
- Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and illnesses, providing appropriate medical and surgical interventions.
- Develop and implement preventative health programs, including vaccination schedules, parasite control, and biosecurity protocols.
- Provide emergency veterinary services for critical cases and after-hours calls.
- Advise farmers on animal husbandry practices, nutrition, breeding programs, and overall farm management to optimize animal health and productivity.
- Perform reproductive examinations and procedures, including artificial insemination and pregnancy diagnosis.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all cases and health interventions.
- Collaborate with farm owners, managers, and other veterinary professionals to ensure integrated animal care.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in veterinary medicine and agricultural practices through continuous professional development.
Required Skills
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
- Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the Province of Ontario.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience with large animals (farm animals).
- Proven diagnostic and surgical skills relevant to farm animal practice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with farmers.
- Ability to work autonomously and make critical decisions in challenging field environments.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to animal health management.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record for travel to various farm sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with herd health management software and data analysis.
- Post-graduate training or specialization in Theriogenology, Epidemiology, or Production Animal Medicine.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
- Membership in professional organizations such as the CVMA or OVMA.
