Key Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with animal restraint and handling during examinations, treatments, and procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Prepare examination rooms and surgical suites, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are readily available and properly sterilized.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout the clinic, including kennels, cages, treatment areas, and reception, adhering to strict hygiene protocols.
  • Monitor and record vital signs of patients, alert veterinary staff to any changes or concerns.
  • Feed, water, and walk hospitalized animals, observing their behavior and reporting any unusual activity.
  • Assist with the administration of medications and treatments as directed by veterinary staff.
  • Prepare laboratory samples for analysis and assist with basic laboratory procedures.
  • Handle inventory management tasks, including stocking supplies and alerting senior staff to low stock levels.
  • Provide compassionate client service, assisting with check-ins and check-outs, answering general inquiries, and maintaining a welcoming front-desk atmosphere when needed.
  • Educate clients on basic animal care, nutrition, and post-operative instructions under supervision.
  • Support the veterinary team with various administrative duties, including maintaining accurate patient records and scheduling appointments.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Genuine passion for animal welfare and a strong desire to work with animals.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and learn quickly.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Physical stamina to handle animals, lift moderate weights, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and sometimes emotionally demanding environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency for record-keeping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous volunteer experience at an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, or animal-related organization.
  • Completion of a Veterinary Assistant program or coursework in animal science.
  • Familiarity with veterinary terminology.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (human or pet).
