Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently collect various types of waste and recycling materials from designated residential and commercial routes.
- Operate compaction and lifting mechanisms on collection vehicles under the supervision of the truck operator.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including proper lifting techniques and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist in the daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of collection vehicles.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public regarding collection schedules or issues.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or incidents promptly to the supervisor.
- Maintain cleanliness of the work area and collection vehicle as required.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activity, including heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong attendance record.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- A positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a physical labour role or outdoor work environment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude or familiarity with vehicle operations.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license (an asset, but not mandatory).
- Familiarity with waste management practices or environmental services.
- Knowledge of Prince Edward Island routes and geography.
