Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Certified Water Treatment Operator to join our critical infrastructure team in Nepean, Ottawa. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the continuous supply of safe, clean drinking water to our community. You will be responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of our advanced water treatment facilities, adhering strictly to provincial regulations and internal quality standards.

Your expertise will safeguard public health by meticulously overseeing all stages of the water treatment process, from raw water intake to final distribution. This includes managing chemical dosing, filtration, disinfection, and sludge handling, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with all environmental and health and safety protocols. You will interpret complex data, respond to alarms, troubleshoot operational issues, and perform routine maintenance tasks to prevent downtime and uphold system integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor water treatment plant equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, and chemical feed systems.
  • Perform routine analysis of water samples for parameters such as pH, chlorine residual, turbidity, and alkalinity.
  • Adjust chemical dosages (e.g., coagulants, disinfectants, pH adjusters) based on water quality data and operational guidelines.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment and facilities, identifying and reporting any malfunctions or potential hazards.
  • Execute preventative maintenance tasks and participate in corrective maintenance activities as required.
  • Maintain accurate operational logs, records, and data, ensuring compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Respond to alarms, emergencies, and system upsets, implementing appropriate corrective actions efficiently.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the calibration and maintenance of laboratory and process control instrumentation.
  • Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and other departments to optimize plant performance and resolve issues.

Required Skills

  • Valid Ontario Water Treatment Operator Certificate (Class II or higher)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in water treatment plant operations
  • Strong understanding of water treatment processes and chemistry
  • Proficiency in SCADA systems and process control software
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and documentation abilities
  • Valid G Class Driver's License with a clean driving record
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Knowledge of provincial environmental regulations (e.g., O. Reg. 170/03, O. Reg. 169/03)
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Confined Space Entry and Fall Protection training
