Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and physically fit Yard Worker to join our bustling lumber yard team, located conveniently near the Gerrard Streetcar line in Toronto. This full-time, on-site position is crucial to our operations, ensuring the efficient and safe movement of lumber and building materials. As a key member of our yard crew, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support our daily workflow and customer service excellence. This role is perfect for individuals who thrive in an outdoor, hands-on environment, possess a strong work ethic, and are committed to maintaining a safe and organized workspace. You’ll play an integral role in preparing orders, managing inventory, and assisting customers, contributing directly to the success of our local construction and renovation projects. We are looking for someone eager to learn, who pays close attention to detail, and enjoys being part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely load and unload lumber and building materials from delivery trucks and customer vehicles.
  • Organize and maintain the lumber yard, ensuring materials are stored correctly and are easily accessible.
  • Assist customers with material selection, loading, and provide excellent, friendly service.
  • Operate various yard equipment, including forklifts, safely and efficiently (training provided if necessary).
  • Conduct regular inventory checks and report discrepancies to supervisors promptly.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all health and safety regulations, company policies, and operational procedures.
  • Perform general clean-up and maintenance tasks to keep the yard tidy, organized, and hazard-free at all times.

Required Skills

  • Ability to lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the day.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with team members and customers.
  • Basic mathematical skills for accurate measurements, calculations, and order fulfillment.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively outdoors in various weather conditions, adapting to changes as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a lumber yard, warehouse, or similar outdoor labor role.
  • Valid forklift operator certification (an asset, but not mandatory).
  • Valid G-class driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of different types of lumber and building materials.
