Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking a passionate and dedicated Youth Worker to join a vibrant community center located near the serene Nitobe Memorial Garden in Vancouver. As a Youth Worker, you will design, implement, and facilitate diverse recreational, educational, and developmental programs tailored to the needs and interests of young individuals aged 12-18. This role requires a dynamic individual who can build rapport, act as a mentor, and foster a sense of belonging among participants. You will navigate complex social dynamics, provide guidance through personal challenges, and advocate for youth well-being within the broader community framework. Your daily work will involve direct interaction with youth, collaborating with colleagues and community partners, and ensuring the successful execution of program activities. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, plan, and deliver engaging programs and activities for youth, including educational workshops, recreational sports, arts and crafts, and life skills training.
- Mentor and provide guidance to youth, fostering their personal, social, and emotional development.
- Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all program participants.
- Assess the needs of youth and adapt programs to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with parents, guardians, schools, and other community organizations to support youth development.
- Manage program logistics, including scheduling, resource allocation, and supervision of activities.
- Address conflicts, provide crisis intervention when necessary, and ensure adherence to safety protocols and organizational policies.
- Maintain accurate records of participation, program outcomes, and incident reports.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and community outreach events.
- Act as a positive role model, promoting healthy lifestyles and positive social interactions.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in youth work, social services, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of youth development principles and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with diverse youth populations.
- Ability to plan, organize, and facilitate engaging group activities.
- Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport and trust with young individuals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Education, or a related discipline.
- Experience working with at-risk youth or specific cultural groups.
- Knowledge of local community resources and referral pathways.
- Second language proficiency (e.g., Mandarin, Cantonese, Punjabi).
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a vehicle.
