Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable Parks Canada Interpreters for a seasonal role in the West Haven, Leduc area. This is a unique opportunity to work on behalf of Parks Canada, playing a vital role in educating and inspiring visitors about the rich history, ecological significance, and diverse cultures of Canada’s treasured sites, including those within or accessible from the Leduc region.

As a Seasonal Parks Canada Interpreter, you will be the face of Canada’s protected areas, engaging visitors of all ages through dynamic presentations, guided walks, and interactive programs. Your days will be filled with opportunities to ignite curiosity, foster a sense of stewardship, and create memorable experiences for individuals and families exploring our magnificent landscapes and historical sites. From explaining geological formations to recounting tales of Indigenous heritage or pioneer life, your ability to communicate complex information in an engaging and accessible manner will be paramount. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging interpretive programs, guided tours, and presentations for diverse audiences, including school groups, families, and individuals.
  • Share information about natural and cultural history, ecological processes, conservation efforts, and visitor safety within Parks Canada sites.
  • Interact with visitors to answer questions, provide directions, and offer personalized recommendations for exploring the park or site.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of interpretive materials, exhibits, and displays.
  • Monitor visitor activities to ensure compliance with park regulations and promote responsible outdoor ethics.
  • Contribute to a positive visitor experience by demonstrating exceptional customer service and fostering a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance interpretive skills and knowledge.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional verbal communication and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and connect with diverse audiences, including children.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian natural and/or cultural history, ecology, or related fields.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various outdoor settings.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent) for Canada.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in environmental science, history, education, tourism, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in interpretation, teaching, outdoor education, or customer service.
  • Proficiency in both official languages of Canada (English and French).
  • Experience with GIS software or outdoor navigation tools.
