Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care, supervision, and support to children and youth in a residential or community-based setting.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans and goals in collaboration with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Facilitate engaging and therapeutic group activities, life skills training, and recreational programs.
  • De-escalate crisis situations and manage challenging behaviours using approved intervention techniques.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes, incident reports, and case summaries.
  • Advocate for clients' needs and rights within the family, school, and community systems.
  • Collaborate with parents, guardians, teachers, social workers, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive support.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all clients, adhering to all organizational policies and provincial regulations.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development training as required.

Required Skills

  • Diploma or Degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of direct experience working with children and youth, preferably in a support or care setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and therapeutic relationships with young people.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Child and Youth Care or Social Work.
  • Experience with trauma-informed practice and mental health support for youth.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and support networks in Vancouver.
  • Ability to speak a second language relevant to Vancouver's diverse population (e.g., Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi).
  • Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or similar training.
