Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking highly professional and vigilant Hospital Security Guards for a critical 24/7 shift role within a dynamic healthcare environment in Bermondsey, Toronto. This isn’t just a security job; it’s a vital position at the heart of patient care, where your presence and actions directly contribute to a safe and healing atmosphere for patients, visitors, and medical staff alike. You will be instrumental in maintaining order, responding to emergencies, and ensuring the protection of property and personnel around the clock. The successful candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to act calmly and decisively under pressure, often in sensitive or high-stress situations. Your duties will range from routine patrols and access control to de-escalating conflicts and collaborating with emergency services. This role demands a proactive approach to security, a strong sense of responsibility, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and professionalism within a healthcare setting. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols of hospital premises, including patient care areas, parking lots, and restricted zones, to deter criminal activity and ensure safety.
  • Monitor surveillance equipment, alarms, and access control systems, promptly responding to any security breaches or suspicious activities.
  • Respond effectively and professionally to emergency calls, medical alerts, disturbances, and security incidents, implementing appropriate protocols.
  • De-escalate tense situations and manage aggressive or agitated individuals using non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
  • Enforce hospital policies and procedures, including visitor management, parking regulations, and restricted access protocols.
  • Provide clear, concise, and detailed incident reports and daily logs.
  • Assist staff and visitors with directions, information, and general support while maintaining a visible security presence.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, fire department, and other emergency services as required.
  • Protect hospital assets, equipment, and personal property of patients and staff.

Required Skills

  • Valid Security Guard License (Ontario)
  • Valid First Aid and CPR/AED Certification
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in security, preferably in a public-facing or institutional setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to operate security equipment and software
  • Demonstrated ability to de-escalate conflicts and handle challenging situations calmly
  • Physical fitness to perform duties including standing, walking, and occasional lifting
  • Clean criminal record check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in hospital security or healthcare environments
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or similar de-escalation training
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act)
  • Experience with CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) principles
