Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Embalmer to join our professional team in West Point Grey, Vancouver. As an Embalmer, you will be instrumental in upholding our promise to provide comforting and seamless services during times of grief.

Your primary responsibility will involve performing embalming procedures with meticulous care and precision, adhering strictly to all provincial regulations and our high internal standards. This includes not only the technical aspects of preservation but also the artistic elements of restorative work, ensuring that the deceased looks peaceful and natural for viewings. You will be responsible for the preparation of remains for various final dispositions, whether burial, cremation, or repatriation, always ensuring the highest level of presentation.

Beyond the technical duties, this role demands a professional who understands the sensitive nature of our work. You will be a key player in maintaining a sterile and organized preparation room, meticulously managing equipment, instruments, and supplies. Compliance with all health and safety protocols, including the careful handling and disposal of biohazardous materials, is paramount. You will collaborate closely with funeral directors, administrative staff, and other team members to ensure all aspects of the funeral service flow smoothly and meet the specific needs and wishes of grieving families. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform embalming procedures in accordance with provincial regulations, ethical guidelines, and company standards.
  • Execute restorative art techniques to prepare the deceased for viewings, ensuring a natural and peaceful appearance.
  • Dress, casket, and cosmetize remains respectfully for funeral services, visitations, and private viewings.
  • Maintain the preparation room, equipment, and instruments in an impeccably clean, sterile, and organized condition.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all health and safety protocols, including proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
  • Collaborate effectively with funeral directors and other staff members to ensure seamless coordination and delivery of services.
  • Complete and maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports related to all embalming procedures.
  • Assist with removals and transfers of the deceased when required, demonstrating sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation schedule, responding promptly to emergent needs.
  • Provide compassionate support and communicate professionally with grieving families as needed, upholding our standard of care.

Required Skills

  • Valid Embalmer License in British Columbia.
  • Proven experience in embalming and restorative art techniques.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, pathology, chemistry, and microbiology relevant to embalming science.
  • Exceptional manual dexterity, attention to detail, and artistic ability.
  • Strong ethical foundation and unwavering commitment to professional conduct and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative member of a sensitive team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially in delicate situations.
  • Thorough understanding and adherence to all health, safety, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks requiring lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mortuary Science from an accredited program.
  • Additional certifications in specialized restorative techniques or grief support.
  • Familiarity with diverse cultural and religious funeral rites and traditions.
  • Experience with advanced or challenging restorative art cases.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with a clean driving record.
