Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Online Community Moderator to join our fully remote team, based out of Thunder Bay, Ontario. This pivotal role involves nurturing positive, engaging, and safe environments across various digital communities we manage for our diverse client portfolio. As an Online Community Moderator, you will be the frontline ambassador of our brand and our clients’ brands, responsible for ensuring that community guidelines are upheld, user-generated content is appropriate, and interactions remain constructive and respectful.

Your day-to-day will involve monitoring discussions, responding to user inquiries, identifying and addressing potential conflicts, and fostering a sense of belonging among community members. We’re looking for someone with a keen eye for detail, exceptional communication skills, and a genuine passion for cultivating thriving online ecosystems. Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor user-generated content across various social media platforms, forums, and chat groups to ensure compliance with community guidelines and terms of service.
  • Actively engage with community members, facilitating discussions, answering questions, and providing helpful information to enhance user experience.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve user-submitted reports of inappropriate content or behavior, applying moderation actions as necessary (e.g., warnings, content removal, temporary bans).
  • Escalate complex issues, technical problems, or severe violations to the appropriate internal teams for further investigation or resolution.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of community rules, client brand guidelines, and platform policies.
  • Contribute to the refinement of moderation policies and procedures based on observed community trends and feedback.
  • Generate regular reports on community activity, moderation actions, and emerging trends to inform strategy.
  • Collaborate with marketing, content, and client success teams to support campaigns and ensure consistent brand messaging within communities.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to foster positive engagement, organize virtual events, or initiate discussions.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices, new moderation tools, and platform updates.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in online community management or content moderation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with a strong emphasis on empathy and clarity.
  • Proven ability to apply judgment, discretion, and tact in sensitive situations.
  • In-depth knowledge of major social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, Discord) and their respective moderation tools.
  • Strong understanding of online etiquette, digital trends, and community dynamics.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining high levels of productivity and accountability.
  • Proficiency in using collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Microsoft Teams, Asana) for team communication and task management.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle high volumes of content and user interactions efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience with various community management software or CRM systems.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools to track community performance metrics.
  • Previous experience working remotely in a distributed team environment.
  • Knowledge of an additional language would be an asset.
