As a Truck Driver Helper, you will be an integral part of our delivery team, working closely with our experienced truck drivers to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of goods to various clients across the Vancouver Lower Mainland. This role is highly hands-on and requires a strong work ethic, reliability, and a commitment to teamwork. You’ll learn the ropes of the logistics industry from the ground up, understanding everything from cargo securement to route planning and customer service interaction. Key Responsibilities
- Assist truck drivers with the loading and unloading of various goods and materials from delivery vehicles.
- Secure cargo properly using straps, tarps, and other equipment to ensure safe transit and prevent damage.
- Help drivers navigate routes efficiently by providing directions and communicating with dispatch.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment alongside the driver.
- Maintain cleanliness of the truck cab and cargo area.
- Interact professionally with customers during deliveries, assisting with paperwork and ensuring accurate order fulfillment.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, and traffic laws.
- Report any vehicle maintenance issues or safety concerns to the driver or supervisor.
- Provide general assistance to the driver as needed to ensure smooth and timely operations.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift heavy items consistently and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong work ethic and reliability with a commitment to punctuality.
- Basic communication skills (English) to effectively interact with drivers, customers, and dispatch.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively as part of a team.
- A positive attitude and eagerness to learn new skills.
- Clean criminal record check.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada (or willingness to obtain through sponsorship).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a general labour, warehouse, or physically demanding role.
- Familiarity with the Vancouver Lower Mainland area.
- Valid Class 5 (or equivalent) driver's license, even if not immediately used for driving large trucks.
- Basic knowledge of safety procedures related to transportation or material handling.
