Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Building Operator, Certified, to join our dynamic facilities management team in Vancouver. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems to ensure optimal functionality, energy efficiency, and a safe, comfortable environment for all occupants. As a Certified Building Operator, you will be responsible for overseeing HVAC systems, electrical infrastructure, plumbing, life safety systems, and general building fabric. Your expertise will be crucial in performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing and troubleshooting issues, and implementing corrective actions in a timely and efficient manner. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain all building mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life safety systems, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with relevant codes.
  • Execute a comprehensive preventative maintenance program, including scheduled inspections, adjustments, and minor repairs to critical equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions, responding promptly to alarms, service calls, and emergencies to minimize downtime and disruption.
  • Perform hands-on repairs and replacements of building components, equipment, and systems as required, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
  • Maintain accurate logs, records, and documentation of all maintenance activities, system readings, and incident reports.
  • Collaborate with contractors and vendors for specialized repairs, projects, and inspections, overseeing their work to ensure adherence to scope and safety protocols.
  • Implement and adhere to all health and safety regulations, environmental policies, and company procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for energy conservation and operational improvements, contributing to the building's sustainability goals.

Required Skills

  • BOMA, SMA, SMT, FMA, or other recognized Building Operator certification.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of direct experience as a Building Operator in commercial or institutional properties.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including controls, boilers, chillers, and associated components.
  • Proficiency in electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, and emergency backup systems.
  • Solid understanding of plumbing systems and fire/life safety protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Additional certifications in specific trades (e.g., Refrigeration Mechanic, Gasfitter).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with tenants, staff, and management.
  • Familiarity with local Vancouver building codes and regulations.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with industry best practices.
