Job Description

Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Press Operator to join our dynamic printing team in Marda Loop, Calgary. As a Press Operator, you will be a pivotal member of our production workflow, responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of various printing presses. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of printing processes, and a commitment to producing high-quality output consistently.

You will operate both offset and digital printing equipment, ensuring all jobs are completed accurately, efficiently, and to our exacting quality standards. Your responsibilities will extend beyond simply running the machines; you will troubleshoot technical issues, perform preventative maintenance, and collaborate closely with pre-press and finishing teams to ensure seamless production. Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and monitor printing presses (offset, digital, and/or flexographic) according to job specifications.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on printing equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and making minor repairs.
  • Load paper and ink, adjusting press for optimal color registration, density, and print quality.
  • Conduct quality control checks throughout the print run, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to client standards.
  • Read and interpret job orders, blueprints, and specifications to determine press setup and operational requirements.
  • Troubleshoot press malfunctions and make necessary adjustments to maintain production efficiency.
  • Collaborate with pre-press and finishing departments to ensure a smooth workflow and timely completion of projects.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Record production data, including job progress, material usage, and any issues encountered.
  • Continuously learn and adapt to new printing technologies and techniques.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Press Operator in a commercial printing environment.
  • Proficiency in operating offset and/or digital printing presses.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and color perception.
  • Ability to read and interpret job specifications and quality control documents.
  • Understanding of printing inks, substrates, and printing processes.
  • Commitment to safety procedures and quality assurance.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and work in a production environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or trade certification in printing technology or a related field.
  • Experience with specific press models (e.g., Heidelberg, Komori, Xerox, HP Indigo).
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) for file review.
  • Forklift operator certification.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing principles.
