Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis, preparing detailed memoranda, opinions, and reports.
- Draft and review a variety of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, agreements, and correspondence.
- Manage client files from inception to resolution, ensuring all deadlines and client expectations are met.
- Represent clients in various legal proceedings, including court appearances, mediations, and arbitrations.
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel, providing timely updates and advice.
- Assist senior lawyers and partners with complex cases, strategic planning, and trial preparation.
- Participate in business development initiatives and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Stay current with legislative changes, legal precedents, and industry best practices relevant to practice areas.
- Contribute to internal knowledge management and professional development programs.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from an accredited institution.
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-call experience as a practicing lawyer in Ontario.
- Demonstrated ability in legal research, analysis, and written advocacy.
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in legal research platforms (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in specific areas such as corporate commercial, litigation, real estate, or employment law.
- Fluency in French (oral and written) would be considered a significant asset.
- Experience with legal practice management software.
- Demonstrated leadership potential and community involvement.
