Job Description

Hiring.zycto is on the lookout for a highly skilled and dedicated Senior Systems Administrator to join our IT operations team in Casa Loma, Toronto. In this pivotal role, you will be the backbone of our technology infrastructure, ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of our internal and client-facing systems. You’ll work with a diverse set of technologies, ranging from server hardware and virtualization platforms to network services, cloud environments, and critical applications. This position requires a proactive individual with a deep understanding of IT systems and a proven track record of managing complex environments, implementing best practices, and troubleshooting advanced issues. You will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and secure infrastructure solutions that support our rapid growth and operational demands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, maintain, and support critical IT infrastructure components including servers (Windows/Linux), storage, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS).
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure high availability and disaster recovery capabilities for all core systems.
  • Manage and configure network services such as DNS, DHCP, VPN, and firewalls, ensuring optimal security and connectivity.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive system documentation, including configurations, procedures, and architectural diagrams.
  • Implement and enforce security policies and procedures, conduct regular security audits, and respond to security incidents.
  • Lead and participate in IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and new technology deployments, from conception to completion.
  • Automate routine tasks and processes using scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Provide advanced technical support and guidance to IT support staff and end-users, acting as an escalation point for complex problems.
  • Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and resource optimization to ensure scalable and cost-effective IT operations.
  • Collaborate with development, operations, and business teams to understand requirements and deliver robust infrastructure solutions.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Senior Systems Administrator or similar role.
  • Expertise in administering Windows Server (2016+) and/or Linux operating systems (e.g., RHEL, Ubuntu).
  • Strong proficiency with virtualization technologies (VMware ESXi, vSphere, Hyper-V).
  • Demonstrable experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, firewalls).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation.
  • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and identity management.
  • Knowledge of storage solutions (SAN, NAS) and backup/recovery strategies.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., MCSA, MCSE, RHCE, CCNA, VCP, Azure Administrator, AWS SysOps).
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Prior experience in IT project management methodologies.
  • Understanding of ITIL framework and service management best practices.
