Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a visionary and highly experienced Director of Analytics – Data to lead the strategic development and implementation of advanced data analytics initiatives. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in transforming raw data into actionable insights that drive strategic decisions across our organization and, by extension, within the operational framework of Seneca College. This position demands a leader who can not only navigate complex data landscapes but also inspire and mentor a team, foster a data-driven culture, and effectively communicate findings to executive leadership and various stakeholders across academic and administrative units. You will be responsible for defining the comprehensive analytics roadmap, overseeing the entire data lifecycle from collection and warehousing to interpretation, and ensuring the integrity, security, and ethical use of our data assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the overall data analytics strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives of the institution.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of data analysts and scientists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning and development.
  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of robust data models, data warehouses, dashboards, and reporting tools to provide actionable insights for various departments.
  • Establish and enforce comprehensive data governance policies, ensuring data quality, security, privacy, and compliance with all relevant regulations and institutional standards.
  • Collaborate closely with executive leadership, academic departments, and administrative units to understand their analytical needs and deliver tailored, impactful data solutions.
  • Drive the adoption of advanced analytical techniques, including predictive modeling, machine learning, and statistical analysis, to uncover trends and forecast future outcomes.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and partners for analytics platforms and tools, optimizing their utility, integration, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Champion data literacy across the organization, providing training and resources to empower staff at all levels to make informed, data-driven decisions.

Required Skills

  • Proven leadership in data analytics or data science for at least 5 years
  • Expertise in SQL, Python or R for data manipulation and statistical analysis
  • Proficiency with Business Intelligence (BI) tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker)
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to translate business questions into analytical frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and cross-functional teams
  • Mastery of data governance principles and best practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative field
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop)
  • Experience in the higher education sector or a similar large public institution
  • Certifications in relevant data analytics or cloud platforms
