Key Responsibilities

  • Lead detailed financial analysis of complex corporate credit requests, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Evaluate creditworthiness, repayment capacity, and collateral adequacy for new and existing clients.
  • Prepare comprehensive credit proposals, memoranda, and reports for presentation to credit committees and senior management.
  • Monitor existing credit portfolios for early identification of deteriorating credits, covenant breaches, and potential risks.
  • Ensure strict compliance with internal credit policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., OSFI guidelines).
  • Conduct in-depth industry and market research to assess potential risks, opportunities, and trends impacting credit quality.
  • Collaborate effectively with relationship managers, sales teams, and legal counsel to structure appropriate credit solutions.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and training to junior credit analysts, fostering their professional development.
  • Stay abreast of evolving financial market trends, economic indicators, and regulatory changes impacting credit risk management.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in credit analysis, preferably within a banking or financial services environment.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and advanced financial modeling techniques.
  • Proficient in credit risk assessment methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical decision-making abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex financial information clearly and concisely.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, financial analysis software, and experience with credit risk management systems.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Professional designation such as CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) or CBV (Chartered Business Valuator).
  • Extensive experience with commercial lending, corporate finance, and structured finance transactions.
  • Familiarity with Canadian banking regulations and compliance standards, particularly for corporate lending.
