Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated Restorative Justice Facilitator for a contract position to join our dynamic team in Toronto. This pivotal role involves leading restorative justice processes, primarily through facilitating circles and mediating dialogues, to address conflict, harm, and foster positive relationships. You will work with diverse individuals and groups, including youth, families, and community members affected by conflict or injustice, guiding them through structured processes that prioritize understanding, empathy, and collective problem-solving.
As a Restorative Justice Facilitator, you will be instrumental in empowering participants to actively engage in repairing harm, building stronger social connections, and preventing future conflicts. Your work will involve careful assessment of situations, preparation of participants for restorative processes, and skillful facilitation of difficult conversations in a safe and inclusive environment. Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate restorative justice circles and conferences for individuals and groups impacted by conflict or harm.
- Conduct pre-conference meetings and preparations with all participants to ensure understanding and readiness for the process.
- Mediate dialogues to facilitate communication, empathy, and collective decision-making.
- Develop and implement restorative justice programs and initiatives in collaboration with community partners.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all facilitated sessions and outcomes.
- Provide support and resources to participants throughout the restorative process.
- Uphold the principles of restorative justice, including voluntary participation, neutrality, and safety.
- Contribute to ongoing evaluation and improvement of restorative justice practices.
- Represent Hiring.zycto at community events and networking opportunities to promote restorative justice.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in facilitating restorative justice processes or similar conflict resolution techniques.
- Exceptional communication, active listening, and mediation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed practices and principles.
- Ability to maintain neutrality and facilitate difficult conversations constructively.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual collaboration tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Restorative Justice facilitation or mediation.
- Experience working with youth justice or within educational settings.
- Fluency in a second language relevant to Toronto's diverse communities (e.g., French, Mandarin, Punjabi, Tagalog).
- Knowledge of community resources and social services in Toronto.
- Post-secondary education in social work, psychology, criminology, peace and conflict studies, or a related field.
