Job Description
Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Estimator to join our thriving Construction team. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for various construction projects (commercial, residential, institutional, infrastructure).
- Conduct detailed quantity take-offs for all project scopes, including civil, architectural, structural, and MEP components.
- Solicit, review, and analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers, negotiating favorable terms.
- Develop and maintain a robust network of subcontractors and vendors.
- Identify potential risks and opportunities within project estimates and propose mitigation strategies.
- Lead and participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to ensure alignment on project scope and budget.
- Perform value engineering to identify cost-saving alternatives without compromising project quality or intent.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior estimators, fostering their professional development.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, material costs, labor rates, and construction methods.
- Utilize advanced estimating software and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Prepare detailed proposals and tender documents for client submission.
Required Skills
- Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in construction estimating, with at least 3 years in a senior role.
- Proven track record of successfully estimating diverse projects within the construction industry.
- Expertise in quantity take-offs and cost analysis.
- Proficiency with industry-standard estimating software (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Accubid, Sage Estimating).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Professional designation (e.g., P.Eng, GSC, CET).
- Experience with complex or unique island-based construction projects.
- Familiarity with local Toronto market pricing and regulations.
- Leadership experience, including mentoring junior staff.
