Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in accordance with company policies and road traffic laws.
  • Transport goods efficiently and securely to various destinations, adhering to scheduled delivery times.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring roadworthiness and reporting any defects.
  • Accurately complete all necessary paperwork, including delivery manifests, logbooks, and defect reports.
  • Ensure cargo is properly loaded, secured, and protected to prevent damage during transit.
  • Adhere strictly to all regulations regarding driver hours, rest periods, and vehicle weight limits.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy vehicle, performing basic operational checks and fluid levels.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and other team members.
  • Represent Hiring.zycto professionally at all times.
  • Navigate routes using GPS and maps, adapting to unforeseen conditions.

Required Skills

  • Valid HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) or Class 2 (Category C) driving license.
  • Valid Driver Qualification Card (DQC/CPC).
  • Digital Tachograph Card.
  • Proven experience as an HGV driver (minimum 3 years preferred).
  • Clean driving record with no more than 6 penalty points.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK road transport regulations and driver hours.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety checks.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights and weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific types of cargo (e.g., refrigerated, hazardous materials – ADR).
  • Experience driving in diverse weather conditions across the UK.
  • Knowledge of the local Aberdeen and Scottish road network.
  • Forklift license (beneficial for loading/unloading tasks).
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot minor vehicle issues on the road.
