Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert nursing care to critically ill patients across various medical and surgical conditions.
  • Monitor, interpret, and document vital signs, lab results, and diagnostic tests, initiating appropriate interventions.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including titrating vasoactive drips and managing continuous infusions.
  • Operate and troubleshoot advanced medical equipment such as ventilators, dialysis machines, and hemodynamic monitoring systems.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, identify changes in patient status, and implement timely care adjustments.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans based on evidence-based practice.
  • Provide compassionate support and education to patients and their families regarding their condition and treatment plan.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records.
  • Participate in daily rounds, providing concise and relevant updates on patient progress.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and infection control protocols.

Required Skills

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Critical Care Unit (CCU) setting
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Demonstrated expertise in hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and medication titration
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent
  • Critical Care Specialty Certification (e.g., CNA certification in Critical Care Nursing)
  • Experience with specialized critical care areas such as surgical ICU, medical ICU, or cardiac ICU
  • Experience precepting new staff or nursing students
