Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert nursing care to critically ill patients across various medical and surgical conditions.
- Monitor, interpret, and document vital signs, lab results, and diagnostic tests, initiating appropriate interventions.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including titrating vasoactive drips and managing continuous infusions.
- Operate and troubleshoot advanced medical equipment such as ventilators, dialysis machines, and hemodynamic monitoring systems.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, identify changes in patient status, and implement timely care adjustments.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans based on evidence-based practice.
- Provide compassionate support and education to patients and their families regarding their condition and treatment plan.
- Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records.
- Participate in daily rounds, providing concise and relevant updates on patient progress.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and infection control protocols.
Required Skills
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Critical Care Unit (CCU) setting
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Demonstrated expertise in hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and medication titration
- Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent
- Critical Care Specialty Certification (e.g., CNA certification in Critical Care Nursing)
- Experience with specialized critical care areas such as surgical ICU, medical ICU, or cardiac ICU
- Experience precepting new staff or nursing students
