Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) to join a prominent hospital setting in Pelmo Park, Toronto. This pivotal role involves the surveillance, prevention, and control of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) within a dynamic and complex acute care environment. As an ICP, you will be instrumental in safeguarding patients, staff, and visitors by developing, implementing, and evaluating infection prevention and control programs. You will serve as a vital resource for all departments, providing expert consultation, education, and support on best practices in infection control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct active surveillance for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) using established methodologies and analyze data to identify trends, risk factors, and areas for improvement.
  • Investigate suspected outbreaks, implement control measures, and collaborate with public health authorities and interdisciplinary teams during outbreak management.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate infection prevention and control policies and procedures in alignment with provincial and national guidelines (e.g., PIDAC, PHAC).
  • Provide expert consultation and education to all levels of staff (clinical and non-clinical) on infection prevention practices, hand hygiene, PPE use, sterilization, disinfection, and environmental cleaning.
  • Monitor compliance with infection control practices through regular audits and provide constructive feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in hospital committees, quality improvement initiatives, and strategic planning related to infection prevention and control.
  • Contribute to the selection and evaluation of products and equipment that impact infection control.
  • Stay current with scientific literature, emerging infectious diseases, and regulatory changes relevant to infection prevention and control.

Required Skills

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or other regulated health professional with relevant college.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or a related health field.
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC®) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) or commitment to obtain within a specified timeframe.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent clinical experience in an acute care setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and patient care practices.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, interpretation, and presentation using various software applications.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and infection control surveillance software.
  • Previous experience in a leadership or charge nurse role.
  • Experience in an academic teaching hospital setting.
