Job Description

Are you a passionate and skilled Lighting Technician ready to illuminate the biggest stages and most memorable events in Leith, Edinburgh, and beyond? Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join our vibrant production team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives on the energy of live events, possesses a keen eye for detail, and has a strong technical understanding of lighting systems. As a Lighting Technician, you will be instrumental in bringing our clients’ visions to life, from initial concept to dazzling execution. You’ll be involved in all phases of event lighting, including design implementation, installation, operation, and maintenance. We produce a wide array of events, from large-scale concerts and theatrical productions to corporate conferences and bespoke private gatherings, ensuring a diverse and exciting workload. Key Responsibilities

  • Implement lighting designs from concept to completion for various live events and stage productions.
  • Set up, rig, focus, and operate a wide range of lighting fixtures, consoles, and associated equipment.
  • Conduct pre-event checks, fault finding, and routine maintenance on all lighting equipment.
  • Load, unload, and transport equipment safely and efficiently to and from event venues.
  • Collaborate closely with event managers, production teams, sound engineers, and other technicians.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe working environment at all times.
  • Assist with other technical duties as required, contributing to the overall success of each event.
  • Programme lighting cues and effects using various lighting desks and software, ensuring artistic and technical precision.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Lighting Technician in live event or theatre production.
  • Strong technical understanding of DMX, Art-Net, and other lighting protocols.
  • Proficiency in operating major lighting consoles (e.g., GrandMA, Avolites, Chamsys).
  • Ability to read and interpret lighting plots and technical drawings.
  • Excellent practical skills in rigging, cabling, and fixture maintenance.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards relevant to event production and British safety regulations.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy equipment and work at heights safely.
  • Valid UK driving licence with a clean record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant technical qualification or certification in lighting, stage technology, or electrical engineering.
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., Vectorworks Spotlight) for lighting design and visualisation.
  • Familiarity with media servers and video integration for live events.
  • IPAF 3a/3b (Scissor Lift/Boom Lift) certification.
  • Current first aid qualification and other relevant safety certifications.
