Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and skilled Railway Technician specializing in Track & Equipment Maintenance to join our vital team in Soho, London. This crucial role involves ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our railway network through meticulous inspection, maintenance, and repair of tracks, signaling equipment, and other associated infrastructure. As a cornerstone of our operations, you will be instrumental in preventing disruptions, minimizing downtime, and upholding the highest standards of railway operational integrity. Working predominantly outdoors, often in varying weather conditions and sometimes outside regular hours, you will apply your technical expertise to identify and resolve complex issues, ensuring all components meet stringent safety and performance specifications. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on railway tracks, switches, crossings, and associated track infrastructure.
  • Execute preventative maintenance tasks on various railway equipment, including points motors, signal systems, and level crossing apparatus.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in track and equipment, implementing effective and lasting solutions.
  • Operate and maintain specialized tools and machinery used for track repair and maintenance.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, operational procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Complete detailed records of all maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, engineers, and operational staff to coordinate work schedules and resolve issues.
  • Respond promptly to emergency call-outs for infrastructure faults or failures, often outside of normal working hours.
  • Ensure the quality and integrity of all work performed, contributing to the overall safety and reliability of the railway system.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Railway Technician or similar role in track and equipment maintenance.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of railway track components, signaling principles, and associated infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools relevant to track and equipment maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of railway safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, often involving heavy lifting and manual labor.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Railway Engineering or a related discipline.
  • PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification.
  • Full UK Driving License.
  • Experience with railway specific software or diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of specific London Underground or National Rail systems.
