As a Driller Assistant, you will play a crucial support role in drilling operations, working alongside experienced drillers on various projects ranging from geotechnical investigations to environmental sampling. Your days will be hands-on, physically demanding, and diverse, working both outdoors and occasionally indoors, in various weather conditions. You will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of drilling equipment, maintaining a clean and organized work site, and assisting with core retrieval and sample handling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Driller in setting up and operating drilling equipment and machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and minor repairs on drilling equipment as instructed.
  • Handle and prepare drilling materials, including rods, casings, and drilling fluids.
  • Ensure the drilling site is kept clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Assist in the collection, labeling, and proper storage of soil, rock, and water samples.
  • Learn and strictly adhere to all company safety protocols and industry regulations.
  • Operate support vehicles and equipment as required, with proper training and licensing.
  • Communicate effectively with the Driller and other team members regarding project progress and any issues.
  • Participate in daily toolbox talks and safety meetings.

Required Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs regularly).
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Valid G-class driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding of tools and machinery (an asset, but not required).

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in construction, labor, or a similar physically demanding role.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience operating heavy machinery (e.g., skid steer, forklift) – training will be provided if needed.
