Key Responsibilities

  • Assist construction managers, supervisors, and skilled tradespeople with daily tasks and project execution.
  • Perform various physical labor duties, including site preparation, material handling, loading/unloading, and debris removal.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently under supervision.
  • Monitor site conditions, equipment, and materials to ensure compliance with all safety regulations and project specifications.
  • Support the setup and breakdown of equipment, temporary structures, and work zones.
  • Participate actively in site clean-up and organization efforts to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
  • Assist with measurements, layouts, and basic inspections as required by project leads.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders, reporting any issues or concerns promptly.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and provincial regulations.
  • Maintain a professional and cooperative attitude with all team members and subcontractors.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of construction principles and methods.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), standing, and bending for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in operating common hand and power tools safely.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and a proactive approach to hazard identification.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Valid G driver’s license and access to reliable transportation to various job sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid WHMIS certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Previous experience on a construction site or in a similar field assistant role (e.g., general labourer, apprentice helper).
  • Knowledge of basic construction materials and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints or schematics.
