Are you an experienced and safety-conscious Yard Jockey looking for a dynamic role with a leading logistics partner? Hiring.zycto in Upper Beaches, Toronto, is seeking a dedicated professional to join our operations team. As a vital member of our yard management, you will be responsible for the efficient and safe movement of trailers within our facility, ensuring timely staging for loading and unloading, and maintaining an organized yard. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently move trailers (dry van, reefer, flatbed) to and from loading docks, staging areas, and parking slots.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on yard tractors and trailers, reporting any defects or safety concerns immediately.
- Monitor and manage yard inventory, ensuring trailers are accurately spotted and accounted for.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse personnel, and other drivers regarding trailer locations and movements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard environment, adhering to all company safety protocols and traffic laws.
- Operate various types of yard equipment, including shunt trucks and potentially forklifts, if certified.
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks on yard equipment as needed, such as fueling or checking fluid levels.
- Complete necessary paperwork and logs accurately and in a timely manner, including trailer manifests and movement records.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable yard jockey or commercial driving experience.
- Valid Class A (AZ) driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Proficiency in operating shunt trucks and maneuvering various trailer types in tight spaces.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations, safety standards, and yard management best practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience with inventory management systems or yard management software.
- Forklift certification or experience operating other material handling equipment.
