Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and analytical Transport Planner with expertise in Route Design and Vehicle Dispatch to join our dedicated logistics team in Mosspark, Glasgow. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless, efficient, and cost-effective movement of goods across our network. You will be responsible for developing optimal daily transport plans, meticulously designing routes that minimise mileage and maximise vehicle utilisation, all while adhering to strict delivery schedules and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize daily vehicle routes to ensure maximum efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to delivery schedules.
- Manage the dispatch of vehicles and drivers, allocating resources effectively to meet operational demands.
- Monitor live transport operations, addressing unforeseen issues such as breakdowns, delays, or traffic congestion promptly.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant transport regulations, including driver hours, vehicle weight limits, and road safety.
- Collaborate with internal teams (warehouse, customer service, sales) to align transport plans with overall business objectives.
- Utilise transport management systems (TMS) and other planning software to generate reports, analyze performance, and identify areas for improvement.
- Conduct regular reviews of existing routes and processes, proposing and implementing enhancements.
- Maintain accurate records of all transport activities, including mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery performance.
- Provide clear and concise instructions to drivers and maintain effective communication throughout their shifts.
- Contribute to strategic planning initiatives aimed at improving fleet utilisation and reducing operational costs.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of proven experience in transport planning, route design, and vehicle dispatch.
- Proficiency with Transport Management Systems (TMS) and route optimization software.
- Strong geographical knowledge of Scotland and the UK.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or professional qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience with telematics and fleet tracking systems.
- Knowledge of HGV driving regulations and compliance (e.g., WTD, tachographs).
- Certification in transport operations or logistics (e.g., CILT).
- Experience in a similar role within a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) or distribution environment.
