Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking an exceptionally skilled and dedicated Fleet Manager to join our operations in Drumchapel, Glasgow. This pivotal role involves overseeing the entire lifecycle of our diverse vehicle fleet, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance with all relevant regulations. As our Fleet Manager, you will be the linchpin of our logistical capabilities, responsible for both proactive and reactive vehicle maintenance programs, as well as the strategic scheduling and management of our driving and maintenance staff.

You will be tasked with developing and implementing comprehensive maintenance schedules, managing external repair vendors, and maintaining detailed records of all vehicle servicing, repairs, and inspections. A critical aspect of this role is ensuring our fleet remains operational with minimal downtime, directly impacting our ability to meet client demands and maintain service excellence. Beyond the mechanical, you will lead a team of drivers and technicians, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement. This includes managing daily schedules, optimizing routes where applicable, overseeing driver performance, and ensuring compliance with working time directives and transport legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the maintenance, repair, and servicing of a diverse fleet of vehicles to ensure operational readiness and compliance.
  • Develop and implement robust vehicle inspection and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Oversee the strategic scheduling and deployment of drivers and maintenance staff, optimizing routes and workflows.
  • Monitor driver performance, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, driving laws, and company policies.
  • Manage external vendor relationships for vehicle repairs, parts procurement, and other fleet services.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all fleet vehicles, including service history, licensing, and insurance.
  • Develop and manage the fleet operational budget, identifying areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all local and national transport legislation, including driver hours and vehicle safety standards.
  • Implement and manage fleet management software and telematics systems to track performance and optimize operations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and promote a strong safety culture within the fleet team.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in fleet management, including vehicle maintenance and staff scheduling.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics, diagnostics, and automotive systems.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
  • Proficiency in fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Solid knowledge of transport legislation, driver CPC, and health and safety regulations.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Budget management experience and a focus on cost efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant professional certification in Fleet Management (e.g., CILT, IMI).
  • HGV/LGV driving license (Class 1 or 2).
  • Experience with telematics systems and route optimization software.
  • Demonstrable experience managing a diverse fleet size.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations pertaining to fleet operations.
