Job Description

We are seeking an exceptionally skilled and dedicated Mason with a strong specialism in wall and tile finishing to join our reputable construction team in Roundhay, Leeds. As a pivotal craftsperson, you will be responsible for executing high-quality masonry work, with a particular focus on the meticulous application and finishing of various wall materials and tiling solutions. This role demands a keen eye for detail, a commitment to precision, and a deep understanding of both traditional and modern masonry techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for masonry work, ensuring they are clean, level, and ready for application.
  • Lay bricks, blocks, stone, and other masonry units to construct or repair walls, foundations, partitions, and other structures.
  • Precisely cut and shape materials using hand and power tools to fit specifications.
  • Perform intricate tile setting for walls and floors, including measuring, cutting, applying adhesive, and grouting.
  • Apply various finishing techniques to walls and tiled surfaces, ensuring smooth, durable, and aesthetically pleasing results.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine materials, dimensions, and installation procedures.
  • Ensure all work adheres to building codes, safety regulations, and company quality standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers, other tradespeople, and clients to ensure project success.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, properly handling and storing materials and tools.
  • Inspect finished work for quality and address any imperfections or issues promptly.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Mason with a strong portfolio in wall and tile finishing.
  • Expertise in various masonry techniques, including bricklaying, block laying, and stone setting.
  • Proficient in all aspects of wall and floor tiling, including preparation, layout, cutting, and grouting.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
  • Strong understanding of construction materials, tools, and equipment used in masonry.
  • Excellent spatial awareness and mathematical skills for precise measurements and calculations.
  • Commitment to health and safety regulations on construction sites.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Valid UK driving license and reliable transportation to job sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Trowel Occupations (Bricklaying) or a related field.
  • Apprenticeship completion in masonry or a similar trade.
  • Experience with specialist finishes such as render, plastering, or decorative masonry.
  • First Aid certification.
  • CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
